Barr Construction, one of the UK’s leading construction companies, has been appointed by South Lanarkshire Council to build a state-of-the art community facility in a contract worth £5.2 million.
Work on the new Fernhill community facility which lies on the outskirts of Glasgow, will get underway later this month and Barr Construction will deliver a modern, multi-use centre which will replace the existing Fernhill pavilion.
Set for completion by winter 2011 the facility will comprise a main hall with a kitchen and bar facilities, committee rooms, training and crèche facilities, a seven-a-side all weather, floodlit football pitch and changing rooms.
Councillor Gerry Convery, Chair of Community Resources Committee at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “South Lanarkshire Council, together with the Community Regeneration Partnership’s Fairer Scotland Fund, have fully funded this new £5.2m project which will be a great facility for the people of Fernhill and is another in the line of very successful new community facilities throughout South Lanarkshire.
“I am sure the people of Fernhill and the surrounding area will be delighted with their new facility when it is completed next year.”
Barclay Chalmers, managing director of Barr Construction, added: “We at Barr Construction are delighted to have been appointed as the main contractor for the new Fernhill Integrated Community Facility and look forward to commencing work later this month.
“We are very pleased to be working together again with South Lanarkshire Council on such an important community project and to delivering an outstanding facility which will be available by this time next year.”
