October 2009 saw the launch of the custom-built Kirkintilloch Integrated Care Facility which will deliver health care services from East Dunbartonshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Barr began work on the £8 million contract in January 2008 and was subsequently appointed to manage the post-construction fit-out programme for the project.
Spread across three floors, the facility combines a host of local health and social services under the one roof and will provide local residents with access to district nursing, health visiting, podiatry, physiotherapy, speech & language therapy, family planning, GP, dentistry and social care services. It will also offer specialist services for the elderly and people with disabilities.
The building features modern conference facilities with audio-visual aids and the top two floors will be used by NHS and local authority employees.
Callum Haining, project manager for Barr, said: “This has been a reasonably straightforward project for us. The client made a couple of amendments to the original project plan which resulted in our completion date being pushed back, however this was not a problem and we factored it into revised plans.
“The success of the initial stages of the project meant that we were asked to manage the final fit-out programme, an indication of Barr’s good working relationship with the client.”
