New future for Wishaw business base

Barr Construction is applying the finishing touches to a new £1 million industrial unit development for local businesses in Wishaw on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council.

The council has created 24 industrial units for new and existing small to medium-sized (SME) businesses at Netherton Industrial Estate.

The modern units provide adaptable space for a variety of business types, including, aimed primarily at start-up companies, range from 300 sq ft to 540 sq ft and will be leased on a competitive, flexible basis.

Barclay Chalmers, managing director of Barr Construction, added: "These units will provide an important facility for local businesses and will act as a catalyst for bringing new jobs and investment into Wishaw.

"It has been tremendously gratifying to work on such a crucial community project and we look forward to hearing about the success of the units in the weeks and months to come."

North Lanarkshire Council has invested £600,000 in the project, with a further £350,000 coming from the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund.

"By creating these new units, we are expanding the range of opportunities at Netherton Industrial Estate and boosting the local economy," said Councillor Anthony Clarke, Convener of Property.

"The units are ideal for start-up and young growing businesses that need quality accommodation that meets the changing needs of the company over time.

"The development will also provide income for the council when the business units are leased, helping us to continue to support local businesses and council services, particularly in the current economic situation."
