The redevelopment of one of the main venues for the 2014 Commonwealth Games has been delivered on-time and on-budget by Barr.
Barr was appointed as the main contractor for Scotstoun stadium by Glasgow City Council in 2008 and the prestigious £16 million project was the first of an estimated £500 million to be spent on the Games.
The new stadium consists of a main stand with 3,500 seats, internal sports halls, media, offices and restaurants with executive viewing facilities, a 1,200 seater north stand, as well as food bars and toilets. Barr also constructed an Olympic specified circular running track, two full sized rugby pitches, one in natural grass and the second to be an all weather grass G3 surface, with floodlight facilities to cover all activities.
Alan Howatson, project manager at Barr, said: “Barr has extensive stadia experience and this is evident in the high-quality features of Scotstoun stadium, which can offer world-class training facilities for both home and foreign athletes. “In fact, it has already attracted interest from foreign countries hoping to make the refurbished venue their training ground for the 2012 London Olympics.”
