This Tesco Express Store constructed in Hinckley, Leicestershire during the first six months of 2008.The project received a lot of attention as it was Tesco’s first full eco express store. It was also a landmark design and build for Barr’s construction team. The design was delivered by our architectural department in Livingston working closely with Tesco’s eco team.

There were several facets that set the building apart from what had gone before including a timber frame, timber panel walls, larch cladding and roof lights. The timber frame was manufactured in Germany and imported in line with the agreed programme dates.

Construction started on 14th January 2008 and progressed well with the store opening on 26th June 2008.

Tesco have been experimenting with other designs since but this remains an iconic design which is still admired, and recently a similar design impressed the planning department in Dumbarton when put on the table by Barr Construction.
