The project involved the relocation of the existing Bendalls Engineering Facility to the newly built premises on the north side of Carlisle completed under a separate contract earlier by Barr. This was followed by the demolition of the 120 year old works over a 4 month period which included extensive asbestos removal. Considerable site preparation works followed by means of a major cut fill operation including sheet piling and retaining wall works. The footprint of the new retail park, which comprised a B&Q superstore and 4 other retail units, underwent vibro compaction and lime stabilisation works followed by r.c. foundations, steel frames and predominately composite wall cladding and built up roofing systems. Externally, extensive car parking, soft landscaping and service diversions were included.
