This is a Format 60 store at grade being built for Tesco Stores Limited as an allocated project under the Framework Agreement. The store is being built on land to the west of the current store, which will be demolished on completion of the new store. This is part of a wider development plan for the area including a health centre and residential properties.
There are several constraints which make the development less straight forward than most. The southern side of the site is adjacent to an old roman fort which must be preserved. This is made difficult by the site levels which dictate the roman fort area must be retained above the service yard which is several metres below. This involves an earth works and contiguous piles retaining wall solution being implemented. To further complicate matters there are two overhead power lines in the same area which must be diverted. These initial works will take around 14 weeks.
After this the store build will commence and work toward completion in November 2010.
