Works involved demolition of the existing old west stand, site preparation and the installation of precast driven piles followed by foundations and drainage works. This was followed by erection of the two tier steel framed stand, precast terrace units and single skin roof and wall cladding. The structure was built on 4 levels comprising ground floor concourse areas, toilets, reception, changing areas, provisions for fitness gyms, referees and TV facilities. The upper floors comprised of more concourse/toilet areas, plant rooms, hospitality suites, press rooms, players’ lounge and offices. The main stand entrance façade included sandstone features and extensive glazed areas. The completed stand provided seating for 6500 spectators.

The works had to be carried out within a very tight site footprint with limited access at both ends of the site. This restriction dictated the sequence of works which involved working from the centre outwards in both directions. Other key challenges included having to accommodate televised matches on a regular basis and the provision of temporary changing facilities for players and staff.
