The Basketball Arena for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England will be located in the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) appointed Barr to build the new 12,000 seater basketball arena which on completion, will be the third largest venue at the London site. Unlike other venues, the arena will be a portable structure and will be owned by Barr. The company will rent it to the ODA for the duration of the Games before dismantling it and moving the entire structure to the next event.
Work has now commenced on-site, and the arena will host the basketball preliminaries and quarter finals, as well as the hand-ball semi-finals and finals. The arena’s capacity will be reduced to 10,000 for the Paralympic Games when it will host both wheelchair basketball and rugby.
