Barr Limited started construction of the new 17,980 capacity St Helens Rugby League Club stadium and a new 140,000 sq. ft. supermarket shell for Tesco Stores Ltd. Works got underway on 23rd August 2010. The Tesco unit is due for completion in July 2011, and the stadium in October 2011, with the first match due to be played in February 2012.
The works on-site include site clearance, demolition, remediation works, ecological surveys, archaeology trial trenching, drainage, sub structure, super structure, infra structure and landscaping to public realm areas.
The site is being built on the old United Glass Works which has great historic importance in St Helens and, via our web blog, we will keep you updated of any significant historic finds. We at Barr pride ourselves on our environmental initiatives and will during the course of the contract be recycling as much of the existing building as possible.
