Construction starts on new 60,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s store in Caldewgate, Carlisle
Scottish SPCA Animal Rescue Centre, Inverness
Following the successful upgrade of the Scottish SPCA’s Highlands and Islands Centre in Inverness to accommodate more animals and visitors – including the creation of a new small animal unit and new access routes – Barr has also commenced work on the second phase of the development, which will see 21 new dog kennels added to the site when it is completed in summer 2012.
Tollcross Aquatic Centre, Glasgow
Glasgow City Council has appointed Barr Construction to carry out the redevelopment work at Tollcross Leisure Centre. Works commenced in May 2011 and will continue until June 2013. The upgraded venue will provide the competition venue for swimming at the the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The centre, which was completed in February 2012, includes veterinary facilities, an operating theatre, pools for seals and sea birds, aviaries and wild mammal enclosures alongside two new dwelling houses for staff.

This project involved the design, alteration and fitting out of a developer’s shell to Waitrose building standards to provide a new 30,000ft˛ store, together withassociated back of house and external works
