Edinburgh Tramway Depot…
This project for Bilfinger Berger sees Barr Construction undertaking the construction of the new Tramway system depot building complete with all associated external works.
The depot building comprises a two storey accommodation block incorporating staff offices complete with all associated staff facilities and the tramway system control room. The depot building works also comprise the construction of the main workshop areas and the internal tram wash area. These works include for the construction of a number of maintenance pits etc as necessary for tram maintenance. In addition the works include the associated external works which include the provision of the main adoptable access road, staff and visitor car parking areas and the construction of the stabling areas where the trams are due to be located overnight.
The project, the Main Hub controlling new Edinburgh Tram system, is complex in terms of interfaces with other parties such as Seimens who are contracted to provide overhead power lines and tram lines.
The building construction is that of a fully galvanised steel frame which is encapsulated in a combination of insulated cladding materials, curtain walling and exceptionally large external doors which allow passage of the trams.
